The World’s First Literary Anthology Devoted to “Pamięć” (“Memory”)

“Pamięć” – the 23rd International Anthology of Contemporary Polish Literature – showcases the work of 108 authors from Australia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Germany, and Poland. Spanning 342 pages, the book includes free verse and classical poetry, short stories, memoirs, poetic prose, photographs, and graphic art.

Some texts are bitter and reflective, recalling deeply traumatic events, while others are filled with longing, sentimentality, and nostalgia for what has been lost in the passage of time. These personal and cultural memories form the atmosphere of this exceptional literary endeavor.

The Creative Team Behind the Anthology

The anthology was brought to life by a dedicated and talented team. The cover and main illustrations were created by Renata Cygan – an accomplished poet, graphic designer, and photographer. Each of her artworks invites reflection, sparking imagination and storytelling beyond the page. Her images serve as visual narratives that open doors to memory and imagination.

Kazimierz Linda, a poet, oversaw the technical editing of the volume. The concept and editorial direction were led by Wanda “Dusia” Stańczak – a distinguished Polish poet, lyricist, and journalist. The book was published by the Warsaw II Branch of the Polish Authors’ Association (Stowarzyszenie Autorów Polskich).

The thematic anthology series began 15 years ago and continues to this day. Past volumes have explored powerful and often challenging themes such as FatherMotherBorderContemplationAgainst the WindBitter VodkaEntangled Paths, and many others.

Memory: The Core of Human Experience

Memory – without it, no acquired knowledge could exist, no experience could be recalled, and life as we know it would be impossible. From the moment we open our eyes – perhaps even earlier – memory shapes our reality. Its absence or failure often brings personal tragedy. It is essential in both joy and sorrow.

That is why “memory” was chosen as the central theme of this latest international anthology of Polish writers. It is an invitation to reflect not only on the past but on the very mechanisms through which we understand and navigate the world.
